Travel can feel expensive before the trip has even started. Flights, hotels, food, transport, and entrance tickets all add up quickly. Yet many travelers lose money in smaller ways they barely notice.

Exchanging Money at the Airport
Airport currency exchange counters are convenient, but that convenience often comes with poor exchange rates and extra fees.
A tired traveler arriving late at night may exchange a large amount of cash without comparing the rate. Later, they discover that a bank ATM or trusted exchange office in the city would have offered much better value.
It is useful to carry a small amount of local currency for immediate costs. For larger amounts, check normal exchange rates before travelling and compare the available options.
